61Tips and Facts about Healthy Whole Body Cleanse
Body cleansing and detoxification is all the rage these days. In the new world of green economy and alternative health practices, the notion of periodically purging your body of unwanted or harmful toxins has surfaced as a largely popular practice. There are a few things you should know if this is something you're interested in pursuing.
First, what this does...
Detractors of detoxing argue that it's superfluous and unnecessary given that the body has natural methods of processing and expelling unwanted chemicals from the body (the liver, kidneys, and the pores). However, these organs are naturally suited to certain amounts of toxic overload. Liver disease happens to alcoholics because heavy drinking forces the liver to process more toxic substance than it's designed to habitually deal with. Same goes for our modern diets. The foods we eat these days, particularly in America, are sending our bodies into toxic overload. The regular methods by which our bodies have come to weed out harmful chemicals over the course of our evolution are eroding in the face of modern chemistry and food processing.
In short, we're destroying ourselves by evolving our diets faster than our bodies can keep up. And evolving them in unhealthy ways.
The answer...
This is where a whole body cleanse comes into focus. Certain methods can give the body's self-cleaning processes a respite from the overhaul. Fasting or restrictive diet methods allow the body's natural cleansing mechanisms to focus less on the toxins constantly coming through the pipes and instead do some "spring cleaning." Old closets and attic spaces of the body will be mined for stored chemicals and poisons (not to mention nutrients). This is where the typical aches and pains of a detox being to surface. The body is ejecting all of this built-up garbage into the blood stream to be removed from the body, usually via the bowels, urination, and skin secretions.
After the dusty closets are cleaned out, the body can breathe a bit easier. It can do all the things it's meant to do -- like fight off sickness and germs, regulate weight, and juice up with energy when it's time to face the day.
This is the basic body cleanse concept. Getting the body in a position where it can clean itself out. There are a number of methods that have developed over centuries of alternative, folk, and eastern medicine. They range from subtle dietary changes like an increase in fiber or switching to fruit alone... to the much more intense fasting and lemonade-only diets. Supplements are taken in some circles, vitamins and anti-oxidants mostly, to boost the bodies purge.
